Am I retarded?

1 2022-02-19 18:42

I've spent so much time exploring programming languages but I can't muster the will to actually program anything. I've dabbled in C, Python, Go, Forth, Scheme, Common Lisp, Elisp, assembly, Smalltalk, Prolog, and Java, but I just don't give a shit.
I've read at least a dozen books (and worked through the examples). I've gone through five or six MOOCs, but I just don't have any meaningful problems that computers would solve and I don't need money.
Is there a solution or is the retardation permanent?

It is time to find a new hobby.

programing has and always will be a means
unfortunately you fell into the means being the end - many such cases

Programming is the means, and the end is shoving more and more advertisement in the face of people.

If learning brings you happiness then the only problem is your self conception. Consider comparing yourself to the useless fungus which is paid to digest and create social media posts for example. They may rationalize their growth as a good life, but they are not flourishing, not in the least. You by contrast spend your time approaching eudaimonia. If however the task doesn't bring you happiness, you could either try changing the way you do it, or doing something else. Ultimately it's your life, and you need to think for yourself even if others may give you advice.

Good advice, everyone.
