Dr. Katelin Albert

Katelin Albert (PhD) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia, Canada.

Her work sits in the areas of medical sociology, health, gender and sexualities, and science and technology studies. Her research is motivated by a central focus on people’s health and sexual health experiences, showing what decisions people make about their health, and exploring how and why they make the decisions they do. Dr. Albert examines the interrelatedness of everyday life, social structures, and health, highlighting the impact of inequalities on personal health experiences.

Recent projects include i) an investigation of B.C. residents’ COVID-19 vaccination attitudes and health behaviours, exploring what people do with public and scientific information (their health information practices) during the COVID-19 pandemic; ii) collaborative and community engaged research aiming to understand 2S/LGBTQ+ experiences and perspectives on suicide, crisis response, and MAID-MI; and iii) research on wait times and waiting for sexual and reproductive health care.
