This Giving Tuesday, pitch in to support student success and wellness

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement that counters the consumerism of Black Friday. It began in 2012 with a simple idea: to dedicate a day for people to focus on giving, volunteering and celebrating generosity. 

Each year on Giving Tuesday, UVic alumni from all over the world, employees and other members of the community join together to support important causes at UVic. Everyone pitches in to make a BIG collective impact. The funds raised on Giving Tuesday support student success, health and well-being and a range of other UVic programs that strengthen communities and change lives.

On campus in the quad, the Giving Tuesday tent will be bursting with games and goodies. Here, students will learn about the generous philanthropy of UVic alumni and play Philanthropoly to designate some of that generosity to a fund of their choice (and get a cookie for doing so). There will also be a sprinkle photo booth and hot chocolate by donation. This is not just for students! All are welcome to come and join the fun.

Giving Grams are another popular way to support Giving Tuesday. With a $5 minimum donation, anyone can send a message of positivity to another person in their life. Along with the message, the recipient gets to direct the sender’s donation to their chosen Giving Tuesday fund.

What does Giving Tuesday fund?

This year there are four priority funds that support student success and wellness. Many UVic faculties and units have also chosen funds to promote that focus on student need, equity, diversity and inclusion, student clubs and activities, hands-on learning and community. Can't decide? You can also make your gift to the general Giving Tuesday fund, which will be allocated to the other funds by students taking part in the online or on-campus games.

The colourful sprinkles make UVic's Giving Tuesday a memorable day for all involved, but they also represent how all donations of any size combine to make a big impact to students, research and programs that strengthen communities and change lives. Please do your part to help your UVic community thrive.
