Applications being accepted for Canada Research Chair
The Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria invites applications for a Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Indigenous Laws and Legal Systems. The successful candidate will be an inspiring teacher with a proven track record in attracting and mentoring JD and graduate students. The CRC candidate will also be an outstanding scholar with a national and international reputation for ground-breaking research in Indigenous laws and legal systems, with the ability to speak across a variety of legal traditions. The CRC, in conjunction with the Faculty’s Law Foundation Professor of Aboriginal Justice and Governance, will provide exceptional leadership in the growth and enhancement of the Faculty’s Indigenous law courses, programs, research activities and collaboration within the university and beyond.
The Canada Research Chair Program (www.chairs.gc.ca), established by the Government of Canada, supports scholars engaged in world-class research. Tier I Chairs are tenable for seven years and are renewable upon review by national and international peers. The successful applicant will be nominated by the University for a Canada Research Chair and that nomination is then subject to review by the CRC Secretariat. Upon approval of the Chair by the CRC Secretariat, the successful applicant will be offered a tenured appointment in the University, at the rank of Professor. The Chair will normally carry a half-teaching load in the Faculty. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and carries a research supplement.
