UVic Law Alumnus Doug White named Interim Director of New Centre at VIU

Congratulations to UVic Law alumnus Doug White (‘07) on his appointment as Interim Director for Vancouver Island University ’s new Centre for Pre-Confederation Treaties and Reconciliation.

The Centre will focus on advancing research, understanding, and public dialogue in relation to Pre-Confederation Treaties and the challenge of reconciliation.

White is the former Chief of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, as well as a former member of the First Nations Summit Task Group and the BC First Nations Leadership Council.

The project of treaty implementation and reconciliation requires a deep understanding of history and the active participation of various groups and communities, including institutions of higher learning.

We are confident that White’s long career working with and leading First Nations and First Nations organizations will serve him well in his new role.

White’s extensive knowledge and expertise will undoubtedly help to make the Centre a great success.
