Madeleine Redfern re-elected as mayor of Iqaliut

Madeleine Redfern, one of the graduates of UVic Law's Akitsiraq program, hwas elected Mayor of Iqaluit for the second time on October 19.  She obtained 59 percent of the votes.

Ms. Redfern has more than 25 years-experience working on issues related to business and economic development and governance, social justice, housing, education, employment and training, community services, preschool child care and health care. She is currently the President at Ajungi Arctic Consulting, Northern Robotics, Arctic Decontamination and Ajungi Tourism.

In 2005/2006, Ms. Redfern clerked for Madam Justice Louise Charron at Supreme Court of Canada.  Since 2008, she has been on the Board of Directors and held the position of Chair with the Nunavut Legal Services Board.  Ms. Redfern was a mentor with the Trudeau Foundation. She was recently recognized for her extensive contributions as recipient of the prestigious Indspire Award (previously known as the National Aboriginal Achievement Award) for public service in 2015.
