Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger to bring international law expertise to UVic Law

We are delighted to announce that Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger will be joining the Faculty of Law as a Limited Term Professor in January 2023 for a one-year term. This is a half-time position that aligns with Prof. Cordonier Segger’s distinguished visiting professorship at Yale Law School, and her visiting chair in sustainable development law at the University of Cambridge.

Prof. Cordonier Segger will bring her expertise in international law and governance related to climate change, natural resources, the green economy and the global Sustainable Development Goals. She grew up in Victoria and is an alumna of UVic and Carleton, McGill, Yale and Oxford.

She comes to UVic from a Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorship at the University of Cambridge, where she is Fellow of Law and Director of Studies for Law Graduates at Lucy Cavendish College, a fellow of the Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Governance and the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law. She also served as Full Professor of Law at the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development in the University of Waterloo, where she is a fellow of the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She has published over 25 books and 140 papers on law, governance and sustainable development issues, serves as Senior Director of the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), laureate of the Weeramantry International Justice Award, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in the Academy of Social Sciences.
