Two UVic Law students land clerkships with the Supreme Court of Canada
Congratulations to UVic Law students, Ashley Caron and Xiaoshan Zheng, for landing clerkships with the Supreme Court of Canada for 2015-2016.
Ashley will be clerking with Justice Moldaver and Xiaoshan will be assigned to a judge appointed from Quebec to fill one of the vacancies. In their role as clerks, the students will research points of law, prepare memoranda of law and generally assist the judges in the work of the court.
This marks the fourth year in a row that UVic Law has placed two clerks with the Supreme Court. In the previous three years, a total of six UVic Law students have obtained clerkships with the court. Though comparative data is not yet available for this round of clerk selections, only three law schools – McGill University, University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall – placed more students between 2012-13 and 2014-15.
We are all very proud of Ashley and Xiaoshan for this remarkable accomplishment and for continuing this record of success for our school. We look forward to following their work on the national stage.
