Bursaries

Bursaries
UVic staff work hard to provide students with financial assistance. Bursaries are available to help relieve some of the stress.

A bursary is a non-repayable monetary award based on financial need and reasonable academic standing for undergraduate and graduate students. The University of Victoria awards over 5 million dollars in bursaries. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Student Awards and Financial Aid at finaid@uvic.ca. UVic is committed to assisting students in financial need to feel informed and supported on their educational paths.

Regulations

Except where a donor directs otherwise, the proceeds of awards issued by or through the University are applied towards a student’s total tuition and fees for the academic year. If the financial aid a student receives exceeds this amount, the balance will be paid to the student. Proceeds from government loans, grants, and work study positions are paid directly to the student (unless students request a portion to be directed towards the school).

An award of financial aid may be withheld or cancelled if there is a lack of suitable candidates or a donor withdraws the award. If the student receiving the award withdraws from UVic or fails to meet the terms and conditions of the award, the funding will be withdrawn.

If for any reason the original recipient becomes ineligible for an award, the funds may be reassigned to other students.

Unless otherwise noted, all financial aid available through the University is limited to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

How do I use my bursary?

Except where the donor directs otherwise, bursary funds issued by the University will be applied towards the total fees for the terms of study for which funding was awarded.

If your fees are paid in full, you may contact Tuition Fees at tuition@uvic.ca to request that they remit any credit balance in your tuition account. View a summary of your tuition account by logging in to Online Tools.
