As a content warning, please note that this webpage includes information about gender-based violence and sexual violence. We understand that this can trigger strong reactions and we encourage the community to connect with Carleton University’s  Sexual Assault Support Centre  and/or Health and Counselling Services  for support. Additional community supports can also be found here and at the bottom of this webpage.

On December 6th, 1989, fourteen young women were murdered at Polytechnique Montréal. Over 30 years later and we are still reckoning with the Canadian and global realities of gender based violence, femicide, and misogyny. Today, like every other day we will continue to teach our students about gender-based violence in Canada and beyond and the intersectional realities that put the most marginalized communities at risk. This year, we also must recognize and raise awareness for the ongoing disproportionate violence that Indigenous women, girls, and 2S+ folks experience. We will also amplify calls from Indigenous Women, Girls, 2S+ Persons to declare a national state of emergency in response to the ongoing genocide of Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2S+ Persons. Join the community to stand in solidarity at Minto Park on December 6, at 6:00 PM, more information available here.
