To all members of the Carleton community,

On behalf of Interim President Jerry Tomberlin, I am pleased to announce Anne Bowker as the new Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) effective July 1, 2024 for a four-year term.

Anne has served as Interim Dean of FASS since August 2023. Over the past year, Anne has embarked on strategic planning for the Faculty that includes initiatives to bolster research collaboration, enhance interdisciplinary programs and foster community engagement. Before assuming this role, she was Associate Dean (Student Affairs and Enrollment) within the Faculty.

Anne has demonstrated exceptional leadership, vision and dedication to the Faculty. Under Anne’s guidance, FASS will continue to thrive and excel in its mission of academic excellence, research and community engagement.

Anne is a Professor in the Department of Psychology. Her research explores lifespan development, with a particular focus on the critical transitionary periods of early adulthood and mid-life. She completed her undergraduate studies at Concordia University and holds an MA and a PhD from the University of Waterloo.

“As the Interim Dean, I’ve had the privilege to witness the dedication of our faculty, staff and students,” said Anne. “I’m honoured to continue serving as Dean and I look forward to leading our community towards even greater achievements.”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Decanal Search Advisory Committee for their diligent work in completing a successful search process. On behalf of the committee, I thank all who submitted comments and feedback throughout the process.

Please join me in congratulating Anne on this well-deserved appointment!

Sincerely,

L. Pauline Rankin
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
