Marjorie Taylor Greene outlines demands she wants from Speaker Johnson
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - On Tuesday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) met with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) again and explained what she is looking for from the speaker, as she continues to threaten to move forward with a vote to oust him.
The congresswoman has been threatening to trigger the vote after voicing her frustrations with the speaker and accusing him of advancing President Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s agenda.
After Tuesday’s meeting, Greene said Johnson now has to make a decision and take action.
“We’ve had discussions in the speaker’s office, and right now the ball is in Mike Johnson’s court. He understands that he’s got to be our Republican speaker of the House,” she said.
Prior to the meeting, Greene laid out a series of demands she wanted from the speaker including only bringing bills to the floor that have the support of the majority, not passing additional aid for Ukraine, defunding special counsels and enacting a one percent spending cut if Congress does not pass 12 separate appropriations bills.
Johnson said his discussions with Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) have been productive. He also said the meeting was not a negotiation.
“There’s nothing unusual about this. I’ve heard Marjorie and Thomas’s ideas, just like I have every day for the last six months heard others, and I reminded the conference this morning. Everybody has the same opportunity to do that. It’s not a negotiation at all,” said Speaker Johnson. “I take Marjorie’s ideas and Thomas’s and everybody else’s equally.”
Greene also said Speaker Johnson cannot drag this out, but it is unclear when exactly she would potentially call the vote on a motion to vacate if he does not act.
The vote is almost certain to fail because House Democrats have said they would table or kill the motion.
