The UVic Law Co-op Program is the only comprehensive common-law program of its kind in Canada. Co-op provides an excellent opportunity to explore a broad range of career options in law.

Requirements

If you're registered in first-year UVic law, you're eligible for the Law Co-op Program.

Double degree programs

If you're enrolled in the JD + MBA double degree program or the JD + MPA double degree program before starting first-year law school, you are not eligible to enrol in the Law Co-op Program. You will, however, have access to law co-op opportunities through the co-op programs in the School of Public Administration or the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business.

Students who start law school and then enrol in one of these double degree programs will be required to withdraw from the Law Co-op Program and will have access to law co-op opportunities through the other programs noted above.

Fees

Co-op students pay a co-op tuition fee for each work term. It's free to join co-op and attend the preparation course—you'll pay your tuition fee after you secure a co-op work term.

You'll pay your fees according to the same tuition fee deadlines as regular course fees.

Fees per work term:

$776.20 for domestic students
$976.27 for international students

Average salaries

You'll receive a salary from your employer during each co-op work term. Co-op salaries vary according to many factors, including:

your previous work experience
the industry you're working in
the responsibilities of your co-op job

Co-op work terms begin in January, May and September and are typically 4 months long.
