Community Food Market

Community Food Market

Students living on and off campus are welcome to pick up free food at the Community Food Market on Wednesday afternoons. In the rare occurrence that we have a cancellation, information will be posted on the UVic Family Centre Facebook page, and the door of the Family Centre.

How to pick up Food at the UVic Family Centre

  • In order to reduce waiting times, we work on a ticket system. When you visit the Community Food Market program and if you plan to return the following week you will be given a ticket. The ticket assigns you a time with a 10 minute time slot between 2:00–3:30 pm when you can return to the Market the next Wednesday
  • If this is your first time visiting the Family Centre Community Food Market program, please stop by the Family Centre at 3:15 pm and let our volunteers know that you do not have a ticket. We cannot guarantee that food will be available, but our volunteers will always do their best. Please be prepared to wait in line as there will be clients who have tickets who will be served first.
  • Our hard-working volunteers pre-package the bags of groceries. Those who are given a ticket with a later time slot will receive the same food as those who have an earlier time slot.
  • Anyone who does not have a ticket will be required to wait and may or may not receive food depending on the supply.
  • Please treat our volunteers and coordinator with the respect and courtesy that they deserve. Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated.

We sincerely thank the Living Edge, the Food Share Network and our volunteers and Family Centre staff for their support with this important program.

Please see our Community Resources page for information about other food distribution programs in the Victoria area.
