Building a legacy

Retired Visual Arts professor Pat Martin Bates has been essential in building the reputation of both UVic’s Visual Arts department and Victoria's arts scene for over 50 years. As an artist, mentor, educator and member of the famed Limners group, Pat has helped influence the development of countless artists.

Still creating art and engaging with the community today, Pat's commitment to UVic continues to inspire the efforts of emerging artists through the Pat Martin Bates Scholarship, awarded annually to a Visual Arts student. The Pat Martin Bates Scholarship is only one of more than 25 annual awards unique to the Visual Arts department, all of which have been created through the generosity of our donors.

Essential Support

We couldn't provide an excellent learning environment without crucial support from generous sponsors such as Soundsnap: The world’s most widely used sound effects platform

We couldn’t do it without you

We gratefully acknowledge all the individual donors, sponsors, foundations, corporations and government agencies who continue to support the creative efforts of our students and faculty.
