As you near the end of your program, you need to apply to graduate to be awarded your credential.  Please see Graduation and convocation for undergraduate students for timelines and instructions.

You must wait until your official convocation date (June or November) to use the designation BSN or MN, even if you complete your program requirements before convocation.

If you require a degree completion letter for employers or other purposes, you may order one through Online Tools – Student Services.

Licensing 

The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) is the regalutory body for nurses in Briish Columbia. Please visit the BCCNM website for instructions on writing the National Council Licensure Examinations for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to allow use of the Registered Nurse (RN) designation.

UVic is bringing the world into the classroom (actual or virtual) and promoting outreach around the globe through teaching/learning, networking, research, practica and co-operative work experiences.

Current opportunities

• All third year undergraduate BSN students take NURS 342: Health and Healing VI: Global Health Issues
• Nursing students can complete a practicum in rural, remote or urban locations. You’ll experience diverse cultures, intersectoral collaboration, and work with those living with marginal health resources.

The Mary Richmond Resource Center (A461 in the HSD Building) was donated by Mary Richmond, a former director of the UVic School of Nursing. Her vision was to create a space where students could further enhance their nursing education. The original intent for this space must be honored and maintained by all who utilize the MRRC. With the goals of fostering independent life-long learning, collaboration and promoting scholarly activities, and the meta-concepts of health promotion and caring, the following guidelines for use in the MRRC must be observed:

1. Respect the opinions and thoughts of others.
2. Honor confidentiality.
3. Achieve excellence through problem solving, sharing of knowledge, and research.
4. Maintain a quiet learning environment.
5. Do NOT remove items from this room.
6. Be tidy and respectful of this physical space.
7. Engage in creating a healthy community environment through support and collaboration with others.
8. If room is booked for a presentation, refrain from using the room during that time.
9. Computers are to be used for educational purposes only.

The MRRC is equipped with the following:

• A loan library
• Manuals, and posters to aid student learning
• Computers with internet connection
• Printer
• Coffee maker, microwave and fridge
• Student food cupboard

The MRRC has also been used for:

• Small group meetings
• Nursing Student Society meetings
• and of course a place to hang out

The faculty and students have raised funds for the creation of this space, with a start-up donation provided by Dr. Mary Richmond. Ongoing fund raising ideas and efforts are needed in order to maintain this space for student use and enjoyment. We welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Nursing Student Society (NSS)

Who we are

The Nursing Student Society (NSS) is a society run by UVic Nursing students created to cater to nursing students! Our aim is to maximize your student nursing experience here on campus. The NSS is committed to engaging nursing students in grad planning, fun events, fundraisers, and leadership opportunities!  

Objectives

The overall goal of the NSS is to promote the professional development of nurses during their student career to plant the seed for future professional development through the following activities:

• Grad event planning
• Social event planning
• Fundraising
• Monthly general meetings
• Professional activities
• Networking with multiple societies and nursing administrator
