Research

The School of Public Health & Social Policy is designed to encompass interdisciplinary and inter-professional fields of study and this is reflected in the varied and dynamic research being carried out by faculty members. Research focuses on collaborative action across all sectors including community; PHSP researchers are some of the most community connected researchers at UVic. Community based approaches to research and knowledge development are supported by partnerships within Uvic, with other universities, government, non-government organizations, the non-profit sector as well as community coalitions and interest groups. Principles of social justice and equity, diversity and cultural safety inform all inquiry. A sampling of some of the areas our faculty are researching includes health promotion, the healthy communities movement, social policy, disability, indigenous health, sexual health, LGBTQ2S people’s health, HIV prevention and care; cultural determinants of health, assistive technology, substance use and addictions, child development and child health, health services research, program evaluation, and community-based participatory research.
