SPAN 304: Indigenous Latin America, Eco & Social Justice (in English)
Latin America and the Caribbean are home to over 50 million people who belong to more than 600 Indigenous groups. In this course we will learn about a few of them, centering our attention on the wealth of knowledge and the vibrancy of their diverse cultures, some endangered while others strongly resurging everywhere in the region. The ancestral wisdom and teachings brought forward offer ideas and solutions that we all can learn from as they are relevant to many shared global concerns.

SPAN 185: Latin America Through Contemporary Film (in English)
(Online) This course offers a panoramic vision of contemporary Hispanic cinema. Because the “Hispanic World” is geographically vast and culturally diverse, the limitations of time require that a selection of material be made. You will be introduced to a variety of cinematic genres (eg. Historical Drama, Comedy, Horror, Social Realism and Documentary) representing four main regions of filmmaking: Spain, North and Central America, The Caribbean and South America.

Explores the vibrant intersections of literature, art, identity and resistance in early 20th-century Spain. Highlights Las Sinsombrero movement and the works of Lorca and other key figures. Tackles themes of censorship, gender and societal norms. Delves into Spain's cultural renaissance and political turmoil. Engages with the period’s fascism, challenges faced by women, sexual and gender minorities and other social groups and contributions to avant-garde movements. Illuminates the struggle for freedom in the face of oppression.
