The mandate of the Centre for Asia-Pacific Initiatives (CAPI) is to conduct and facilitate research on policy issues related to the Asia-Pacific region, and expand and strengthen its links with universities and other institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, especially with China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Korea, and the island states of Oceania. In addition, the Centre serves as a regional resource facility to the University and to the larger community.
The Centre for Studies in Religion and Society (CSRS) is a community of academics dedicated to the scholarly study of religion in relation to all aspects of human society, from law and politics to family and culture to history, the sciences and the arts. They are equally interested in Eastern, Western, ancient and contemporary religions.
The Chinese Canadian Cultural Association (CCCA) helps new immigrants adapt to Canadian society, and it has maintained ties between new Canadians from China and their home country by hosting Chinese government visitors and arranging visas and pension payments for Chinese residents in Victoria.
The first of its kind in Canada, the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) was formed in Victoria by 31 local groups in 1884 to protect the rights and safety of Chinese immigrants.
The UVic Global Community is a program area within International Student Services (ISS) that involves international, indigenous and domestic students, staff and faculty working together to celebrate diversity, advance inter-cultural competency and cultivate an inclusive and globally minded campus. Through many partnerships and community connections, our programs support international students’ transition, integration and academic success.
The Global Engagement office collaborates with UVic’s external and internal partners to advance our strategic and internationalization goals. Global Engagement develops and implements policies to integrate and promote international partnerships, projects and programs to enhance UVic’s diverse intercultural and global environment. The International Commons (IC) is a welcoming space within the Learning Commons where students go to study and connect.
International Student Services (ISS), in collaboration with the McPherson Library, coordinates programs and initiatives in the IC designed to support academic success. International Student Services (ISS) has primary responsibility for supporting international students at the University of Victoria. With a focus on student success that begins with pre-arrival and settlement services and continues throughout the duration of studies at UVic, ISS supports undergraduate and graduate degree program, incoming exchange and incoming visiting students’ personal development and academic success.
Pacific Peoples Partnership (PPP) is Canada’s only non-profit social justice organization devoted exclusively to working in solidarity with peoples of the South Pacific to promote their aspirations for peace, justice, environmental sustainability and community development. For over 40 years, PPP has been building effective relationships with Indigenous and civil society partners across the Small Island Developing States of the South Pacific (Melanesia, Polynesia, and Micronesia) and First Nations across Canada.
Victoria Canada China Friendship Association (VCCFA) - The Federation of Canada-China Friendship Associations is the umbrella for the six CCFAs in Canada. We work closely with our sister association in China, the Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Every two years, representatives from CCFAs across Canada join with friendship groups from the Pacific Rim Countries as guests of the CPAFFC. The purpose of these gatherings is to discuss the role and importance of friendship and to learn about some aspects of Chinese society not revealed in general tourism. Victoria Chapter was the very first established in Canada.
The Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society (VNCS) – was formed in 1993 specifically to establish a sense of community for those of Japanese heritage and/or those interested in Japanese culture.
