Tips for Success

One tip that I would offer new international students starting their program at UVic is... To take the time to build a support network. The orientation events are a great way to meet other students and start building your support network.

One of the best ways for international students to get connected during their time at UVic would be… To join a student led club. It’s a great way to meet other students with similar interests or to try something new. If there are no active clubs that interest you, you have the opportunity to start your own club and share your passion with other students too!

Student Success Tip: Make the most of your university experience. One opportunity that I wish I had taken advantage of as a university student was to go on an exchange trip. Keep in mind that it is equally important to have a study-life balance.

About

I came to Canada as an international student and completed my Master of Education at UVic. I have always been very passionate about education and have worked in program development and international education for the past 10 years. Before moving to Canada, I worked as an Assistant Human Resource Manager in Bhutan. I became a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) in 2016 and my work has since focused on providing immigration and settlement support to international students.

Interests

My favourite thing to do is spend time with my family and friends. I have two young daughters who keep me very busy. As a family we love to travel and watch movies. When I have some time for myself, I seek out formal educational opportunities and love to read.

Fun fact

I come from a country that is about the same size as Vancouver Island and has approximately the same population too.
