Tips for Success

One tip that I would offer new international students starting their program at UVic is... That asking for help is one of the most important skills to develop early on in your studies – and it is definitely a skill! Knowing your resources and being able to ask for support when you need it is a huge element of independent problem-solving. At UVic you have access to an incredible community of people who can help you navigate challenges and also celebrate your successes with you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us – we would love to hear from you. 

One of the best ways for international students to get connected during their time at UVic would be… Join the UVic Global Community!

Student Success Tip: Don’t limit your learning to the classroom. There is so much to learn and do as a university student, and engaging in the broader community can really enrich your academic experience as well.

I grew up in the Lower Mainland of BC and completed my BA at UVic, followed by an MA at University College Cork in Ireland. My experience studying overseas inspired me to pursue a career in international education, and I’m fortunate to have worked in this field for many years. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to work with an amazing team of Advisers supporting international students here at UVic.

Fun fact

During my undergraduate studies, I spent a few summers working as a tour guide in Victoria. One year, I even learned how to drive an amphibious vehicle that was used to tour visitors around the Inner Harbour and James Bay.
