- University of Victoria

Message from President Hall

Dear Members of the University Community:

Dr. Valerie Kuehne currently holds an extended appointment as Vice-President Academic and Provost, which is scheduled to end by June 30, 2022. Valerie’s willingness to remain in her position during this time is providing strong academic leadership during both the COVID-19 response and the presidential transition.

On behalf of the university community and the leadership team, I would like to recognize Valerie’s dedicated work and acknowledge her deep commitment to the university. Valerie has transformed the ways we support our students and faculty, and has been instrumental in furthering our goals related to truth, respect and reconciliation. I look forward to working with her over the next year as she continues to provide leadership in these, and other important initiatives.

Search Process

Later this month, we will be initiating a search for a new Vice-President Academic and Provost. In accordance with the Procedures for the Appointment of the Vice-President Academic and Provost (Policy GV0305), the University Secretary’s office will issue a call for appointment committee members on February 23, 2021.

The initial responsibility of the appointment committee will be to acquaint itself with the requirements of the position and establish criteria for the next appointment. Feedback from the university community will play a critical role in helping the committee identify opportunities and challenges facing the university, and the qualities and experience needed in the next Vice-President Academic and Provost. There will be opportunities for the university community to engage throughout the search process. Please watch for more information on the committee and the process in the weeks and months to follow.

I look forward to engaging with you in this important process.

Best regards,

Kevin Hall
President and Vice-Chancellor
