The classification

Finding the classification of the record

There are two ways of searching for the classification:

1. You can navigate using the organization of the Directory of Records (DOR):

a. The DOR is arranged primarily by function.

AD Administration
BP Buildings and Properties
CS Computing and Systems Services
FM Financial Management
GV Governance
HR Human Resources
LA Libraries, Archives and Museum
RE Research
SA Safety and Security
SR Student Records
SS Student Services
TP Teaching Programs

Choose the function and then scan the resulting list.

There are some that won’t be intuitive, so you may have to search more than one category (where is Training? In "Administration"? Or in "Human Resources"?), but once you’ve found it, you will always use the same classification. (Hint: Human Resources)

b. Searching

The Classification

You can do a word search of the contents of the DOR. This is helpful if you have a word that is particular to the subject you are searching for. If you are searching for "Freedom of Information requests", typing "Freedom" into the "series title" or "scope and contents" will take you directly to the classification. If you type "Freedom" in "search all fields" however, you will get dozens of results as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act is often cited as the rationale for records retention.

c. Still can’t find it?
