Writing Cafe

CIRCLE hosts weekly writing cafes to facilitate a supportive, shared, drop-in space for faculty, graduate students, and postdocs whose research addresses Indigenous peoples and topics to come together and get work done on individual writing projects.

Writing Cafes are every Friday, hosted in person at Saunders Annex 130 or online on Zoom, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Coffee, tea, and Snacks will be available!

Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Indigenous Research Workshop

The Indigenous Research Workshop is committed to building a network of faculty members and graduate students across disciplines whose research, writing & teaching address Indigenous peoples & topics.

The group typically meets every few weeks to engage works-in-progress. The first meeting each semester sets the schedule for that term.

CIRCLE Consultation and Engagement Sessions

This Spring, CIRCLE (Centre for Indigenous Research and Community-Led Engagement) extends a warm invitation to Indigenous graduate students and Indigenous faculty members at UVic to join us for a series of engagement and consultation sessions and an online questionnaire to envision our future together. We are eager to hear your priorities, needs, and ideas for better supporting your research as Indigenous graduate students.

What does the future of Indigenous research and community engagement at UVic look like from your perspective?

These consultation sessions will be facilitated by Sanala Planning. Please note that these consultations and the online questionnaire are only open to current Indigenous graduate students and Indigenous faculty members at UVic. 

In-person consultation and engagement sessions:

  • Monday, March 11 in the CIRCLE Meeting Room, Saunders Annex 130
  • Indigenous graduate students: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
  • Indigenous faculty members: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
  • Registration has closed for the in-person sessions

Online consultation and engagement sessions:

  • Thursday, March 14: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm PST
  • Monday, March 25: 1:00 – 3:00 pm PST
  • These online sessions are open to UVic Indigenous graduate students and Indigenous faculty members

Sage Spring Fest!

Calling all Indigenous Grad students, faculty and staff! 
SAGE and CIRCLE are throwing an end-of-term Spring Fest to celebrate Indigenous grad students!
Come celebrate the end-of-term, recognize one another’s good work and build community. Join us for lunch, cultural and art activities, featuring artist Brianna Bear (Songhees & Kwakwaka’wakw) and tea-making with the Aunty Collective!
