About

Hello! My name is Jakkapan and I am a pre-doctoral intern in Counselling. My pronouns are he/him. I am originally from Thailand and am a grateful visitor on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱ŚANÉC traditional territories. I’ve also lived as an uninvited visitor in Northern BC and Northern Alberta, in the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh, Métis, Cree, Dene, Blackfoot, Saulteaux and Nakota Sioux First Nations. In my free time I enjoy being active outdoors, with hiking and camping being among my favourite activities. That being said, nothing beats time well spent with my cats (and all cats). I originally completed my undergraduate studies here at UVic, and am completing my doctoral studies in counselling psychology at the University of Alberta.

Counselling approach

I have experience and interest in working with adults from a diverse constellation of backgrounds and identities (e.g., students, refugees, LGBTQIA2S+ folx, folx with diverse abilities), and who are experiencing a variety of issues (e.g., anxiety, depression, career, and relationship issues). I enjoy bringing a mindfulness, compassion-focused and values-driven lens to our work together.  I approach the counselling relationship from the understanding that we’ve each arrived here along our own unique journeys, shaped by intersecting layers of identities, lived experiences, privileges, and oppression. It’s my honour to work with you in the way that stays most true to who you are and where you’ve been.
