About

Hello, my name is Meli and I am an Ahousaht of the Nuu-chah-nulth from the west coast of Vancouver Island and have been a visitor in the beautiful territories of the L’kwungen (Songhees), Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ nations since childhood.

I completed both a BA (psychology) and a master’s in Indigenous community counselling psychology at UVic. I am honoured to be a member of the counselling team providing support to students.

Counselling approach

I believe that everyone has gifts which may be realized, discovered and built upon with support. I have an Indigenous, strength-based person/community centred approach looking holistically at self and striving for balance in all aspects (emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual).

I have extensive experience supporting students at various stages of their educational journey, including help related to learning skills and career exploration, identity development, the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.

In the past year, I co-facilitated the Social Confidence groups, ACT for Anxiety and mindfulness meditation.
