Teacher Education: Indigenous Education (post-degree professional program)
Bachelor of Education (BEd)
The Indigenous Education post-degree professional program is designed to enhance relational accountabilities with local Indigenous people and communities. It provides aspiring teachers (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous) with a relevant, relational, and transformative education designed to foster a deeper understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis histories, cultures, and ways of knowing and being.
Graduates are eligible to apply for the BC Teaching Professional Certificate of Qualification.

Admission
This post-degree professional program (PDPP) is for degree holders who want to teach Indigenous education. Apply to the Faculty of Education as a post-secondary degree holder.

September entry
- Apply to UVic by: February 28
Admission requirements
- A bachelor's degree from a recognized institution that is acceptable to the University of Victoria.
- A minimum average of "C+" (3.00 on the UVic 9-point scale) on the most recent 12 UVic units attempted (24 credits = approximately 8 courses).
- A minimum average of "C+" (3.00 on the UVic 9-point scale) on the most recent two full years of courses attempted (30 UVic units = 60 credits).
Note: 3.0 UVic units are equivalent to two half-year courses or 6 credits at most BC colleges and universities.
English
- Two courses in approved English (total of 3.0 UVic units), including a minimum 1.5 units of approved literature.
- A minimum C+ grade in each of your two approved English courses.
Canadian Studies
- One course in approved Canadian Studies (1.5 UVic units).
Mathematics
- One course in approved Mathematics (1.5 UVic units), completed within ten years of program entry.
Laboratory Science
- One course in approved Laboratory Science (1.5 UVic units), completed within ten years of program entry.

English language proficiency
You must demonstrate English language proficiency to attend UVic. Your transcripts are enough to prove proficiency if you've studied full-time in an academic program at the high school or post-secondary level within Canada for at least four years, and all of your instruction was in English.
