NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY has been issued for today with a round of heavy rain and potentially strong thunderstorms this afternoon, and then a quick shot of wet snow early tonight.

STRONG STORM THREAT

Widespread rain is expected to make a comeback across the Mid State starting late this morning and lasting through our afternoon. With that rain comes a threat of a couple of strong, to an isolated severe storm, mainly in southeast Middle Tennessee.

This is a low-end severe threat overall, but any storm could produce damaging wind and small hail.

Elsewhere, storms could easily produce heavy rain that reduces visibility and causes ponding on roadways. Highs today will top off in the mid-50s.

CHANGE TO SNOW

Late this evening and through early tonight, colder air will slide back into the Mid State. That shot of colder air will turn any lingering moisture into wet snow across the Mid State. The snow will not last long, but we could get some quick accumulation along and north of I-40 as well as in the Cumberland Plateau.

Any snow accumulation would only amount to a coating of about an inch in the highest elevations but would mostly stick to grassy areas. That being said, just keep your guard up for the potential of quickly changing road conditions.
