NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Hundreds of people will be getting a refund after the city decided Thursday that a local company was booting cars illegally in the month of December in Nashville. It is a story that WSMV 4 Investigates first uncovered this week.

When we introduced you to Steven Knapp, he had just filed a complaint with the Metro Transportation Licensing Commission accusing Nashville Booting Company of having no permit when they booted his car.

“It is just annoying, and it is illegal,” Knapp said.

Thursday, the commission reviewed that complaint. They agreed with Knapp and found that the company was operating illegally from Dec. 1 through Dec. 12, 2023.

“I am pleased with the result,” Knapp said.

Nashville Booting Company’s representative refused to answer WSMV4 Investigates’ questions following Thursday’s hearing, but he told the board that company ownership messed up the application.

“He did not send payment with it and didn’t have everything required for it to go through,” operations manager Brian Miller said.

Now, Nashville Booting will be on probation indefinitely until it provides the commission with a list of everyone booted from Dec. 1 through Dec. 12 and contact all of them for a refund.

“A refund is due not just to this gentleman but everyone in that period of time that was booted,” one commissioner said.

Plus, the company will have to provide the board with a business plan or policy of how they will handle customer complaints like Knapp’s better.

“You have to show up,” Knapp said. “You have to speak, and you have to speak truth.”
