Teen charged in murder of 19-year-old in Madison
The victim was found shot in a field off Gallatin Pike on Monday afternoon.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A teenager was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say he shot and killed another teenager with an automatic pistol.
Jaylin Sanford, 19, was wanted in Monday’s murder of Kenneth Buford Jr., who is also 19, police said.
According to the arrest affidavit, Buford was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a field behind 1400 North Gallatin Pike just after 3 p.m. on Monday.
Buford was transported to TriStar Skyline Medical Center, where he later died, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
During the investigation, homicide detectives discovered surveillance footage that shows Sanford running toward Buford and another person and firing shots at them with what appears to be an automatic pistol. Buford was struck several times as he was attempting to run away, the affidavit states, but the other person was unharmed and managed to flee the scene on foot.
Through witness interviews and information obtained from the other person with Buford, Sanford’s identity was obtained and confirmed through a blind photo lineup. MNPD reported his arrest on Tuesday afternoon.
Sanford was booked on Tuesday evening and charged with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide. He remains in custody on a $600,000 bond.
