NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - When Bre Douglas heard there was a shooting on Friday night just feet away from where she grew up - she says she wasn’t surprised.

“Every week there is a killing or shooting or something,” Douglas said, “I hear people say somebody just got shot in University Court. I just be like, ‘oh, really?’ Like it’s not surprising. It’s actually normal over here and it’s scary.”

According to the victim’s girlfriend - the 29-year-old man was sitting outside of the Sudekum Public Housing apartments on Charles E. Davis Boulevard when he was shot just before 6 on Friday evening by a man in a mask.

He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. MNPD has release a photo of the man they are looking for, who they say is the suspect.

Douglas says events like this are why she moved.

“When it’s time for you to let your kids outside and play. Next thing you know is to shoot out. It was just scary,” Douglas said.

When asked what she wants to see changed here to end the violence – she says the change needs to come from the older generation.

“When I was little growing up here we had people to look up to, but now it’s just like these people, the guys and the females out here. They’re not great role models for these kids. They’re falling over, dying in front of them,” Douglas said.
