GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) - A South Carolina veteran has received a much-needed helping hand to fix his roof that has leaked for the last several years.

Quincy Parsons served in the military for 23 years and his home in Georgetown County has had a bad roof for years.

He had been using tarps on the roof, along with pots and buckets inside the house to deal with leaks.

That was until community members and the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization stepped in.

Three area roofing companies, GAF Roofing, Atlantic Roofing Supply and Winyah Lumber, donated materials, and another, SOS Roofing, donated the labor to get a new roof installed at no cost to Parsons.

Quincy and Melinda Parsons said the donation was “a blessing from God” as they watched the crews install the new roof on their home.

“We couldn’t ask for anything better from the guys doing this for us, they donated everything,” Melinda Parsons said.

The Parsons said they are now able to use their pots and pans for cooking instead of roof leaks.

The companies involved said this was all about giving back to someone who served the country and bringing the community together.
