3-year-old may have been handling gun during fatal shooting, police say

Detectives are trying to determine if a young child was handling the gun when it fired, killing a 25-year-old woman.
Metro Nashville Police are investigating if a 3-year-old is responsible for accidentally shooting and killing a woman near Fisk University.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Nashville Police believe the shooting death of a 25-year-old woman on Sunday morning was accidental.

Police said the victim was visiting an apartment in the 900 block of 16th Avenue North on Sunday morning. Just before 11 a.m. police were called for an accidental shooting.

Detectives are trying to corroborate that a 3-year-old was handling a gun that the victim brought into the apartment when it went off.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

MNPD said detectives will continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
