NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Whether you live in the area or you’re in town to catch a concert, you may want to avoid Nissan Stadium in your commute.

Stadium leaders, the Metro Nashville Police Department, and NDOT are expecting traffic to be bad this week. They added the ongoing construction on stadium grounds will add to the existing problems the area faces.

“My Uber driver was complaining about that, about how parking is going to be really terrible,” Brian Rump said, who’s visiting Nashville from Canada.

Rump says he steered clear of any driving, having heard the reviews from other travelers about traffic issues.

“I’ve decided to fly and take Uber because I heard about the Nashville traffic,” Rump said.

Others, like Everett Windover, say they’ve witnessed the Nissan traffic on a non-event day with the current construction, which added 10 minutes to his trip.

“[Our] taxi cab driver had a bit of a hard time getting us to where we needed to go after meandering a bit around the construction,” Windover said, who’s in Nashville from New York.

City leaders are urging the public to have a plan in place before the day of the event.

“Don’t think that after the show, you’ll be able to get into your car, quickly get to the interstate, and be home in 10 minutes,” MNPD Public Relations Director Don Aaron said.

MNPD and NDOT warn of traffic woes ahead of the summer concert season.

Here’s what they’re recommending:

  • If you’re driving in for an event at Nissan, start finding a place to park right now.
  • They highlighted that people can park downtown and use the pedestrian bridge to go to the stadium instead of clogging traffic around Nissan.
  • Instead of driving, they also recommended biking, public transportation (WeGo), and rideshare apps. (Uber, Lyft, etc...)
  • If you live or commute through the Nissan Stadium area, find alternate routes.
