Morgan Wallen waives right to appear in court after Nashville arrest
Wallen waived his right to appear as he prepares to take the stage at Nissan Stadium for three days of concerts.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Country music star Morgan Wallen has waived his right to appear at a scheduled court hearing following his arrest in Nashville in April, according to his attorney Worrick Robinson.
Waiving his right to appear means the “Sand In My Boots” singer won’t have to physically appear in court on Friday and Robinson will appear on his behalf.
Wallen waived his right as he prepares to take the stage at Nissan Stadium for three days of concerts in the Music City starting on Thursday night.
Wallen was arrested on April 7 after he allegedly threw a chair from the top of Chief’s, Eric Church’s Broadway bar. Witnesses told police they watched him pick up a chair, throw it over the roof, and laugh about it. The rooftop of the bar stands six stories above Broadway.

Two officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department were below on Broadway and said the chair landed three feet from them, according to Wallen’s arrest affidavit. Officers spoke with bar staff and witnesses and reviewed security footage, which all confirmed Wallen’s alleged actions, police said.
Wallen said he has taken responsibility for his actions and regrets them.
“I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks,” he said in a statement in the days following his arrest. “I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility.”
Wallen was released a few hours after being booked into jail in Nashville on a combined $15,250 bond. His arrest has renewed safety concerns on Broadway, with officials saying they are reviewing ways to make Nashville’s downtown safer.
“I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe,” Wallen said.
Wallen’s court hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. Robinson will provide an update after the court hearing is over.
“The court has formally waived Morgan Wallen’s appearance on Friday, May 3 as his presence is not required to advance the case,” Robinson said in a statement. “The Office of the District Attorney has been notified of the Appearance Waiver.”
