Nashville driver attacked by strangers while at a stop sign, police say
The victim used a 10-inch piece of rebar to fight off the two men and managed to escape, police said.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Nashville driver was forced to defend himself from two robbery suspects on Thursday after police say he was attacked while stopped at a stop sign.
The victim told police he was driving his truck down Roosevelt Avenue toward Gallatin Pike North when he stopped at the stop sign, according to a Metropolitan Nashville Police Department arrest affidavit. That’s when a sedan pulled in front of his vehicle, cutting him off.
Two men got out of the vehicle and one of them tried to open his door, so the victim got out. Police said he was “forced to defend himself” while being cornered by two strangers.
One of the men threw a large brick at a victim, hitting him in the chest, which started a fight. The two men pulled the keys from the man’s truck and tried to take his wallet and phone, according to the affidavit.
The victim used a piece of 10-inch piece of rebar to fight off the two men and managed to escape, police said.
The suspects later flagged down police and requested medical assistance after one of the suspects reported being stabbed.
Police determined Brayan Escobar Rodriguez and his father were the men who attacked the driver, according to the affidavit. Escobar’s father was stabbed, but the victim is not facing any charges. He told police about fighting the men off, but he didn’t realize he had stabbed anyone.
Escobar is charged with aggravated robbery with a weapon. He’s being held on a $100,000 bond.
It’s unclear if his father has been booked yet. He was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center by ambulance.
