NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Passenger traffic at Nashville International Airport is expected to surge on Sunday.

Airport officials said the number of departing passengers is projected to exceed 42,000, approaching the all-time record of 43,447 departing passengers set on Oct. 15, 2023.

“In anticipation of heightened passenger traffic, BNA will ramp up parking and valet staffing and coordinate with the Department of Public Safety to manage traffic flow throughout the day,” airport officials said in a news release.

Officials urge travelers to follow these tips for a seamless travel journey:

  • Take advantage of short-term parking. To alleviate congestions, visitors coming to retrieve family or friends are offered the choice or complimentary or reduced-rate parking in the terminal garages, with rates varying based on the duration of stay.
  • Utilize the new cell lot located at 1415 Murfreesboro Pike. This remains a complimentary option for drivers awaiting the arrival of their loved one. The new lot provides ample space and digital signage that displays real-time updates on incoming flights. Allow 20-30 minutes from landing time to reach the terminal. Click for more on the cell waiting area.
  • Sign up for BNA Text alerts at the top of the airport’s website.
  • Take alternate routes to BNA. Familiarize yourself with all the alternate routes to the airport, such as Exit 216A and 216B from Interstate 40 and Murfreesboro Pike, especially during heavy travel periods. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is relocated part of Donelson Pike. A segment of the former Donelson Pike is closed with traffic redirected to a new section of Donelson Pike where a traffic light has been installed.
  • Arrive early. Give yourself plenty of time to park, check in and get to your gate.
  • Allow extra time for parking. Nashville International Airport has six parking options to choose from. If parking in valet, passengers coming from I-40 will only be able to access this area from Exit 216B. Click to check parking details and availability.
  • Check the status of your flight before arriving at the airport. Officials are advising passengers to check the status of their flight before coming to the airport.
