Election Commission votes to keep Rep. Justin Jones’ name on ballot
The commission voted 3-1 to approve the signatures on Jones’ petition after a challenge by Republican District 52 challenger Laura Nelson
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Davidson County Election Commission voted to keep Rep. Justin Jones’ name on the August primary election during a lengthy meeting on Thursday night.
The election commission considered the challenge filed by Laura Nelson, the Republican candidate for District 52, against several of the signatures on Jones’ qualifying petition. Jones’ petition contained 25 approved signatures.
“Tonight, after a three-hour hearing, Republicans failed to kick me off the ballot,” Jones said in a statement sent to WSMV4. “This is yet another attempt at political harassment after failing to silence, censure, intimidate, and expel our movement. But today the people of District 52 showed up and the truth prevailed.”

The commission heard evidence for more than three hours before making the decision.
The commission also considered a challenge filed by Rep. Bo Mitchell, D-Nashville, against signatures on the qualifying petition of Metro Councilman Jennifer Frensley Webb. Webb has qualified to run as a Republican in District 50.
The board considered several signatures that were challenged by both candidates. After all the debate, Webb had enough signatures and will remain on the ballot.
