Young man killed after car crashes into rock wall in Nashville, police say

Police closed I-24 East from Thompson Lane to Harding Place overnight.
Traffic was diverted off the interstate from Thomspon Lane to Harding Place.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A young man was killed in a crash Sunday on Interstate 24, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The crash that happened just before midnight on I-24 East near Harding Place and shut down the interstate for hours as police investigated. The preliminary investigation shows a Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed and was passing other vehicles on the shoulder of the roadway when the driver, Daniel Lorezeno Tyler, lost control and hit a rock wall, police said.

Keijhan Ameer Roby, 22, was the rear passenger when the car hit the wall, and he died on the scene, according to MNPD.

Tyler was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries. The front seat passenger was not injured.

There were no signs of impairment at the scene, police said.

The investigation continues. All eastbound lanes reopened at about 4:30 a.m.
