Plane registered to Louisiana doctor crashes in Williamson County, killing 3, officials say
It is unclear if the plane’s registered owner was onboard when it crashed on Wednesday.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Three people are presumed dead after a small plane crashed near Franklin on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Operations have now switched to search and recovery in the area. The debris field is over half of a mile long, Chief Deputy Mark Elrod reported during a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
First responders and additional crews worked through the night and are expected to continue recovery efforts into Thursday evening. The plane initially left from an airfield in Gonzales, Louisiana, which is in the greater Baton Rouge area, and was headed for Louisville, Kentucky, the WCSO reported.
Officials have spoken with the victim’s families. The identities of those killed are expected to be released on Thursday.
The Advocate reports the plane is owned by Lucius J. Doucet, III, of Baton Rouge, although it is unknown if he was on board the plane when it crashed. Doucet is listed as a plastic surgeon in Baton Rouge and records show the aircraft, a 1966 Beechcraft V35 Bonanza, has been registered to him since January, according to the Advocate.
Roads are set to be reopened late Thursday afternoon.
The FAA initially reported at least two people were on board but later updated the number to reflect three people in the plane when it crashed.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
