MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) – Murfreesboro Police said one person had died after a shooting outside a 7-Eleven gas station on Joe B. Jackson Parkway.

Police said a 23-year-old man has died. The other victim, who was shot in the shoulder area, is in the hospital in stable condition.

Juan Charco, 26, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Charco was one of the men in a black truck who fired at the two men driving the Mercedes. Police said Charco’s brother was interviewed by detectives and released. Charges could be pending as the investigation progresses.

The shooting happened at about 2:30 p.m. at 1509 Joe B. Jackson Parkway. Two men were shot, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department. Detectives are investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Police said one of the men was shot multiple times while the other was shot in the arm.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that two men in a black Ford F150 towing a Chrysler 200 stopped at the business. The truck was having mechanical issues and they removed the Chrysler from the trailer. Then two men pulled up in a silver Mercedes.

The gas station and a nearby Burger King are closed as police investigate.

“This is a senseless act of violence,” Murfreesboro PD spokesman Larry Flowers said. “You had innocent bystanders around at both of these businesses that could have easily been in harm’s way.”
