‘Please pray for ... our sweet Asher’: Family shares update on boy swept into storm drain
The 10-year-old was swept into a storm drain during severe weather last week.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Rutherford County Director of Schools Jimmy Sullivan shared a Sunday update on his son Asher. The 10-year-old was swept into a storm drain during severe weather last week.
Dr. Sullivan has posted updates about Asher’s prognosis on Facebook since the incident. On Sunday, he said:
“Asher had a really really rough night. Neurological signs we were seeing as positives have stopped. He had some real tough moments with pulse, blood pressure, and breathing. MRI shows part of the brain herniating into his brain stem, and severe damage to just about all areas of his brain. Despite what we were seeing with Asher each moment, we still were hoping against all odds. Unfortunately, the worst case scenarios seemed to have come true.
He’s not in imminent danger at this very moment, but recovery does not seem possible. Kaycee and I have some impossible decisions to make in the next few days that no parents should have to face. Please pray for our family and our sweet Asher.”
Asher was swept under the storm drain on Wednesday, May 8, while neighbors were helping pick up debris from severe weather. He eventually came out in a drainage ditch. CPR was administered, and his heartbeat was reestablished.
However, the damage was substantial, and Asher has remained on life support at Vanderbilt since.
A baseball game and vigil were held in honor of Asher at Lead Off Baseball Academy in Smyrna on Saturday.
After the game, all the kids signed the game ball and families came together to raise money for Asher’s GoFundMe account.
