POOLESVILLE, Md. (WJLA) - A marine veteran from Maryland who served in three wars during his lifetime received a special honor on Friday that had eluded him for most of his life.

Richard Remp, 98, received his high school diploma this week.

Remp dropped out of high school when he was 17 years old to serve in World War II.

His military service continued through the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

While he had a successful career, he never received a high school diploma.

But that all changed after family members and fellow veterans hatched a plan to get Remp a diploma from the high school he attended in Pennsylvania.

Remp was extraordinarily touched to receive the diploma on Friday while the group visited him in hospice care.

“You just don’t know what it means to me,” Remp said. “I’ll cherish this for the rest of my life.”
