GORDONSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Multiple cars struck a downed tree on Interstate 40 West in Smith County overnight, according to the county’s rescue squad.

At about midnight at Mile Marker 263, the Smith County Rescue Squad and other first responders were sent to a multi-vehicle accident involving vehicles crashing into a downed tree.

Crews found a partially fallen tree blocking lanes of the interstate causing some drivers to drive through it before coming to a stop. The rescue squad said only non-life-threatening injuries were reported.

Debris was scattered across the interstate, blocking one lane entirely. The Tennessee Department of Transportation responded to the scene to help clear the roadway.
