NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Homicide detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department identified the victim in a deadly shooting in South Nashville.

MNPD officers responded to the shooting around 1:30 a.m. on Friday after a man said he heard a gunshot while driving. The man told officers he turned around to investigate and found 29-year-old Darrius Bergeron lying in the street, dead from a gunshot wound.

Bergeron’s body was found near the intersection of Hart Street and Lewis Street, and police blocked off the area for the investigation.

A witness reported seeing Bergeron approach the passenger side of a white SUV before the gunfire was heard, and two SUVs were seen leaving the scene toward Trimble Street, police said.

No other injuries were reported, and no suspects are in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
