NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY remains in effect for Wednesday this week when a strong cold front will push through the Mid State.

The threat of severe weather has significantly decreased over the past few days, but we are still expecting showers, storms, and gusty winds for the morning commute Wednesday followed by the chance of a little sleet or even wet snow in the higher elevations.

EARLY WEEK

Today will be VERY warm and breezy with temperatures in the mid to even the upper 70s this afternoon along with a wind gusting to around 20 mph at times. We’ll mix clouds and sunshine through the middle of our day, but clouds will then increase going into the late afternoon and evening.

A weak disturbance will develop overnight and bring us a few rain showers tonight and into tomorrow morning. While I won’t rule out an afternoon shower tomorrow, most if not all of us stay dry with temperatures still in the mid-70s. Tuesday will be very windy with gusts near if not over 30 mph at times.

FIRST ALERT DAY- WEDNESDAY

The approach of a strong cold front on Wednesday morning will keep the wind gusty (near 30 mph) but will also bring us some scattered showers and even a few rumbles of thunder throughout the day.

The GOOD NEWS is that severe weather no longer seems to be a concern. That being said, we could very well see winds gust over 40 mph in the morning hours as our first wave of rain and storms pushes in for the morning commute. That could all easily cause some slow going for the morning or some issues at the bus stop as well.

The rain will try to change to sleet, and even some wet snow in the highest elevations late in the day.

LATE WEEK & WEEKEND

As the cold front pulls away, temperatures drop drastically. Temperatures will fall into the 20s for most by Thursday morning.

Thursday afternoon looks partly cloudy with highs near 50 degrees.

There’s a stray shower chance for each day this weekend. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will all feature a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will warm back into the middle 50s for Friday, with 60-degree temperatures returning for Saturday and Sunday.
