NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was charged after allegedly threatening to kill a man while demanding he withdraw cash from a downtown Nashville ATM.

Javonterious Starns, 22, is charged with attempted robbery.

On Thursday, police responded to Fourth Avenue and Broadway for an attempted robbery. The victim told police Starns and his group of friends told him to pull out $100 from an ATM on Broadway and they would give him $200 for unknown reasons, according to a Metropolitan Nashville Police Department arrest affidavit.

The victim said he couldn’t use the ATM and he’d have to go to another one. Starns then threatened the victim, saying he would “f him up” if he did not pull the money out, the affidavit said.

“The defendant also threatened to kill the victim if he did not do as he was told,” police wrote in the report.

The victim managed to escape. Starns was later spotted by police and ran away before eventually surrendering.

He remains jailed on more than a $100,000 bond.
