COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - A child is injured following an overnight shooting in Columbus.

The Columbus Police Department is holding a press conference at 3 p.m. Wednesday following the shooting that injured a 6-year-old child. Watch below:

According to officials, the shooting happened in the 4500 block of Tracy Street. In a press conference held by the police department, Chief Deputy Lance Deaton says 6-year-old Cameron Thomas was shot and injured as he was playing in the driveway.

Thomas is now in grave condition.

Chief Deputy Deaton says 22-year-old Makaliah Briscoe has been arrested on four counts of aggravated assault. Additional charges and arrests are expected to come.

Deaton says to date, there has been 14 murders in the city - compared to last year’s 18 murders at this time.

Briscoe appeared in court Friday morning. She pleaded not guilty and is being held on a $25,000 bond. The case is bound over to Superior Court.

According to officials James Raymond, the boyfriend of Cameron’s mother rented a car from Briscoe on the 29th of April. Raymond allegedly didn’t return the vehicle the next morning due to running late, which resulted in Briscoe eventually threatening Raymond via social media. Prior to that, Raymond allegedly left the car in a parking lot with the keys under the mat for Briscoe in fear of her threats.
