Is that proprietary software?
If not, what is its open source license?

GPL 3+

That's terrible news for the 43 lines of code that is encumbered by the GPL.
I have hate in my heart.
Next time, I will progressively restrict programmer freedom by using the Affero GPL, Open Software License, Sybase Open Watcom Public License, Commons Clause, Fair Source License, and completely closed source. Even for 30 line shell scripts.

What is the purpose of bytecode VMs in a world where real machines exist to execute machine code?

The GPL protects users from jews trying to force non-free code on them and it protects the programmers from free-riding corporations.
>>5
Portability and bytecodes are usually simpler than machine code so it's easy to target with compilers.

Restrict a programmer's freedom to develop proprietary software?

The author can choose whatever license he wants, however, I think it's fine if you are using GPL or even AGPL for important code but I would use CC0 for simple snippets and the like.

Sorry, I don't want to contribute to people who work to erode user freedoms. I will continue releasing my software under the AGPL.
