La mineure environnement

La « mineure environnement » valide, au sein du Diplôme de l’ENS, un parcours interdisciplinaire .

• L’approche interdisciplinaire est fondamentale pour comprendre les questions environnementales.
• L’objectif pédagogique de cette mineure est donc de permettre aux étudiants d’appliquer une démarche scientifique (au sens large) à ces questions et de pratiquer l’interdisciplinairité.

Une mineure inclusive en évolution

En travaillant à la définition et au renforcement des compétences permettant aux générations futures de faire face aux défis environnementaux globaux de notre temps (adaptation au et atténuation du dérèglement climatique, conservation de la biodiversité, transitions équitables…), nous envisageons la refonte d’une Mineure Environnement inclusive.

L’inclusivité s’exprime dans un processus accueillant les contributions de tous participants à la refonte, c’est à dire, les étudiants, les enseignants et les chercheurs, exploitant et partageant les connaissances développées par toutes disciplines enseignées à l’ENS (et à PSL).

Au delà des cours offerts directement par le CERES (https://ceres.ens.psl.eu/-Descriptif-243-.html), une cartographie extensive de l’offre de formation des départements est en cours, souhaitant aboutir à l’identification des contenus et/ou des méthodes pertinents aux études environnementales. L’offre de cours résumée à la page (https://ceres.ens.psl.eu/-Cours-environnement-hors-CERES-.html), à mettre à jour chaque année, est représentative, mais pas exhaustive. Il s’agit d’un première tentative de répondre à la question des compétences, en méthodes (statistique, Intelligence Artificielle, modélisation, Systèmes d’Information Géographique, conception et mise en oeuvre d’enquêtes, recherche en archives, etc.) et contenus, dans les sciences dites dures ainsi que dans le sciences humaines et sociales (sciences/politiques/droit liés à l’adaptation à et à l’atténuation du changement climatique, et aux transitions écologique/économique/énergétique “justes”, écologie et évolution, économie environnementale, histoire de l’environnement, philosophie de la science, humanités écologiques…)

Bien que la Mineure Environnement ne soit validée qu’en fin de scolarité, au fur et à mesure que la Mineure évolue, nous invitons les étudiants intéressés à nous contacter (contact ci-dessous), pour échanger à propos de leur parcours, y compris le choix de cours, l’engagement dans des stages et projets, individuels et de collectifs, etc.

Comment obtenir la mineure ?

La mineure s’obtient à la fin de la scolarité, en accord avec le tuteur principal et le ou la responsable du CERES.

Pour obtenir la mineure, il faut réunir un certain nombre de validations à la fin de sa scolarité :

• Un minimum de six cours (séminaires ou ateliers) pluridisciplinaires en environnement. Ces cours ne doivent pas avoir été validés dans le cadre d’un diplôme universitaire (L3, M1, M2).
• Un stage (laboratoire, service public, entreprise privée, association, etc.) en lien avec l’environnement.
• Un essai tutoré ou un projet individuel/collectif comportant une part de recherche.

Les responsabilités prises dans le cadre d’une association étudiante, les projets individuels et collectifs, l’organisation de séminaire d’élèves peuvent également être comptés dans la mineure, à condition d’être inscrites dans GPS.

Les cours peuvent être validées au CERES et dans n’importe quel département de l’ENS. Ils peuvent aussi être obtenus dans des enseignements hors ENS, en particulier au sein des autres établissements PSL. La validation se fait avec l’accord du CERES. Toutefois, au moins deux cours ou ateliers devront être suivis au CERES sur les trois ou quatre années de scolarité.

Mineure et diplôme universitaires

Les cours validés pour la mineure ne peuvent être validés pour un diplôme universitaire (L3 ou Master).

En revanche, certains cours sont validables pour des diplômes universitaires. Il suffit de demander l’accord à l’enseignant qui signera une attestation. Dans ce cas, il faut inscrire dans GPS "cours validé à l’université".

Obtention de la mineure

Pour obtenir la mineure, il faut envoyer avant le jury du diplôme un mail aux responsables du CERES avec le récapitulatif des cours validés sur GPS. Le tuteur principal doit être en copie du mail.

The "environment minor" is part of the ENS Diploma and validates an interdisciplinary pathway.

•  An interdisciplinary approach is fundamental to understanding environmental issues.
•  The pedagogical objective of this minor is therefore to enable students to apply a scientific approach (in the broadest sense) to these issues, and to practice interdisciplinarity.

An evolving, inclusive minor

As we work to define and strengthen the skills that will enable future generations to face up to the global environmental challenges of our time (adaptation to and mitigation of climate change, biodiversity conservation, equitable transitions...), we are planning to redesign an inclusive Environment Minor.

Inclusivity is expressed in a process welcoming contributions from all participants in the redesign, i.e., students, teachers and researchers, exploiting and sharing the knowledge developed by all disciplines taught at the ENS (and at PSL).

In addition to the courses offered directly by CERES (https://ceres.ens.psl.eu/-Descriptif-243-.html), an extensive mapping of departmental course offerings is underway, with the aim of identifying content and/or methods relevant to environmental studies. The courses cartography summarized on the page (https://ceres.ens.psl.eu/-Cours-environnement-hors-CERES-.html), to be updated annually, is representative, but not exhaustive. It is a first attempt to answer the question of skills, in methods (statistics, Artificial Intelligence, modelling, Geographic Information Systems, survey design and implementation, archival research, etc.) and content, in the so-called hard sciences as well as in the humanities and social sciences (sciences/politics/law related to adaptation to and mitigation of climate change and to "just" ecological/economic/energy transitions, ecology and evolution, environmental economics, environmental history, philosophy of science, ecological humanities...).

Although the Environment Minor is only validated at the end of the course, as the Minor evolves, we invite interested students to contact us (contact below), to discuss their course of study, including choice of courses, involvement in internships and projects, both individual and collective, and so on.

How to obtain the minor ?

The minor is awarded at the end of the course, in agreement with the main tutor and the CERES manager.
To obtain the minor, you need to meet a certain number of requirements at the end of your course :

•  A minimum of six multidisciplinary environmental courses (seminars or workshops). These courses must not have been validated as part of a university degree (L3, M1, M2).
•  An internship (laboratory, public service, business company, association, etc) with a link to an environmental thematic
•  A tutored essay or an individual/collective project with a research component.

Responsibilities taken within the framework of a student association, individual and collective projects, and the organization of student seminars can also be counted towards the minor, provided they are registered in GPS.

Courses can be taken at CERES or in any ENS department. They can also be obtained in courses outside the ENS, in particular at other PSL establishments. Validation is by agreement with CERES. However, at least two courses or workshops must be taken at CERES over the three or four years of study.

University minor and diploma

Courses validated for the minor cannot be validated for a university diploma (L3 or Master).
However, some courses can be validated for university diplomas. All you need to do is ask the teacher for approval, and he or she will sign a certificate. In this case, you should enter "course validated at university" in GPS.

Obtaining the minor

To obtain the minor, an e-mail must be sent to CERES before the diploma jury, with a summary of the courses validated on GPS. The main tutor must be copied on the e-mail.
